When replacing the Stihl 015 gas/oil tank/front handle gasket with a new one should one apply some kind of gas resistant sealant or just install it dry?
I used to use sealant and got burned. Pieces of it broke off and scored the piston on one of the saws I rebuilt. When I asked the question, most said to keep it dry and that is what I have done. No problems so far and I don't expect to have any, either.
To followup, I'm surprised at how well the gasket seals based on my experience with similar looking cork/fiber type gaskets on car engines. After the original installation I had to take the cover off twice more and it still seals nice and tight, no leaks.
