I have a Poulan245a that I picked up a few years ago. Piston was toast, but cylinder looks like it'd clean up nice enough with a light honing. It's got a 2"(50.8mm) bore & open transfers. Can I even hone something with open transfers? If so, what type & size hone should I use for something like this?

You'll have a rough time even with a ridged hone, being open transfer. Proceed with caution. I have the lisle ridge hone, it goes down to 3" I think in std form. There is kits to adapt to larger and smaller bores. They are a bit pricey just for one use.

Having second thoughts on salvageability of this cylinder. I know I could clean up the superficial scoring. However, upon closer inspection, the chrome of the exhaust-port's center portion is worn off as well as 1/2mm above & below the exhaust port (the lighter color portion in pic). It's enough to snag my fingernail going up & down. It's a clean enough wear line above & below the port, that I considered a little porting work to clean it up. However, without the central guide's chrome, the exhaust port essentially becomes 81.2% of the bore-width... which I assume is going to snag piston rings pretty bad. Ya'll think it's junk? Was a $20 parts saw for my 306a anyway, might just have to stay that way...
