In one breath he says its a 'good logging saw' , and in the next he says for 'occasional use' as a firewood saw.

I like the way he tries to appeal to the macho types - big boys - Ha!

WTF is an 'auto - sharpen'?!?! :p I want one of those! Whaddoyado? Push a button? Again, I say Ha! Whadadick!

Yeah MasterBlaster, Auto sharp involves pushing a button. On the other end of the button is an aluminium oxide stone. you push the stone into the running chain and it grinds the top of the tooth. It only works on Barracuda style chain (which has a different shape tooth designed for auto sharp) It is wickedly aggressive, nasty stuff. If a chainsaw is going to reach out and bite you with the engie off it will do it with Barracuda chain.

The pictures of the saw on the computer screen are priceless.

Heck $250 is a deal on that saw. He probably paid $400 to have it rebuilt LOL

I always wonder about stuff like that. You'd think if you were going to scam someone so poorly, you'd use an 3120 or 090 as your bait.

So, is that a good thing or a bad thing?

I am going to email him and ask about the pics. A new jug and pistion ? I would highly doubt they are available. Even a Poulan dealer would be unlikely to have one.

auto sharp

The angle of the teeth was a bad thing, they'd snag everything that got close to them and cut you if you got near them. Auto sharp was an idea that should have stayed on the drawing board. It was going to save homeowners from the drudgery of learning to use a file to sharpen chain. With the touch of the button your chain was going to be so sharp that cutting firewood would be like cutting butter. Didn't work, most idiots would rev their saws and hit the button or hit the button while in a cut only to have the oxide wheel fly apart. Glad to see those off the market. The chain looked aggressive as all get out but what a loser of an idea.

I'd have to check my saw, but I think the jug is cast into the crankcase with a removable cylinder head. Standard Tecumseh small 2-stroke. These saws were made by AYP/Roper in the '70s, IIRC.

You guys are just jealous because the buyer of this saw is going to be cutting a lot of "chords" of wood. Maybe they'll be singing in the rain too?

I think that's what happens when you cut a piano. :D

Fish is a big proponent of the self sharpening saw on his poulans.
He installs them on Huskys as a Fisherized saw hop up mod.
This method is the fore runner to the 90 second tickle, one light touch of the button and you're good to go. After over use, the cutters then become drivers, so simply turn chain inside out and rock on.

am i wrong or did craftsman commision echo to make them some 650 evls an change the name. same cc and it looks just like my saw.front oil an mix tanks etc. mine seems to be a pretty solid saw.

I've seen the saws that Echo made for Sears. They rebranded several models. Usually bright yellow.

As far as I know, DB, Echo, AYP/Roper, Poulan, and Solo all made saws for Sears. Any other brands I'm forgetting?

I don't know about the 650 but I've run a Craftsman saw that was an Echo 701.
I think that John's list is pretty complete but seems like I saw some Remington/Craftsmans way back when.
