I was wondering what has a better resale value after about 1 or 1 1/2 months of use. A Husqvarna 137 or a Stihl MS170? Which one will I get the most money out of when I go to sell it? I can get the 170 for 169.99 and the 137 for 159.99. Thanks

Stihl.

Even though I know the Husky 137 is a poulan saw under orange colors. I would buy it used before i would the stihl 170 new or used. because i know the 137 will cut circles around the 170. So i for one would pay more for it over the underpowered 170.

I own both saws, both feel pretty cheap. Both have held up to hours of carving. The muffler screen plugged up on the 170, easy fix. The 136 doesn't oil very good, no fix. The 170 comes with .043 chain, I don't like it. I use the .050 bar and chain from my ms200t. I think they would have equal trade in value. hope this helps!

I agree that $100 would be tops once they are used. What you have to be aware of with resale values is that there has to be enough of a "spread" between the price of a new item, and what you are looking to get for the used one. Putting yourself in the shoes of the buyer, unless you can save a fair amount of money on a used one, you'll just go for the brand new one and a full warranty. And with saws in this price range, there isn't much room for a decent spread.

Agreed, the 136 has more power. I bought the 170 because of the inboard clutch design. Easy to change to 1/4 pitch for carving bars.

I plan on clearing some brush and thinning a bunch of small jack pines (2-4" in diameter) with it. After the job is done I will sell it. Thanks

Buy a $100 Pull-On at Wally World or Lowes and just keep it when you are done. As much as I can't stand them, they are OK for small stuff. My brother and dad each have one and I make fun of them every time they get one out but they have cut a bunch and are still going. You can probably re-sell one for $50-$65 and only be out $35-$50 instead of $70 when you are done. Personally, I'd buy a better saw than I thought I needed and then keep it. That's always been my philosophy with tools and guns and it has served me well over the years.
