How do you guys shear tall Hemlocks that are about 15-20 foot tall. I was thinking about an A- Frame ladder and regular 24" gas powered hedge shears, but I don't know. This job probably won't pay enough for me to go and buy those long pole hedge shears, plus I never really do this type of tree work. But, in the winter you got to do what you have to around here to keep the bills paid.

Are the pole shears long enough to reach say 15 feet just from the ground with the operator holding it?

Invest in a top-quality orchard ladder & some good shears, if you plan to do more of this kind of work; otherwise you may be better off to just pass on it.

If you have a straight shaft weed whacker you could try a sharp circle blade. It takes a steady hand, and gotta watch out for those orchard ladder legs:eek:.

Can you use a pole pruner? I have used the pole hedge clippers before. They are good for, like Brian said, about 10 - 12' That's maxed out though. You can get the shear attachment for a regular gas powered pole saw... however those get heavy fast from my understanding of things.

don't know if you can get them in the states but we use echo power pruner with a hedge cutter head on it.this telescopes out to around 5-6m plus how ever high you can hold it.but out on full extension it gets real heavy real quick,a good test of shoulder strength!

Blue, you can get them here. But like you said they get heavy fast. I believe that they go for $200 for the head.
