Off the shelf shotgun approaches to soil/tree health is a mixed bag indeed. Just like introducing non endemic mycorr products I suspect introducing "beneficial fungi and root colonizing bacteria" will either find its niche or it wont. (Keizer, Ferrini, et al)

It is not a bad thing to diversify soil biology by adding ubiquitous strains of microbes/consortium of beneficials, whether from a product bag or from the kitchen compost but is it the best way to spend $110?

1 PHC Compete Plus = 5 /.5lb packets for $110

for $110 I can get >2000lbs of compost and have a much better product for the tree.

Adding intact organic matter is the best way to go for tree fertilization, imo. If the site does not allow it then consider a controlled slow release product. Use ISA BMP and ANSI A300 part2 to help selection.

All of what Ed said, and... if you are intent on using those products, they can be found much cheaper than that. PHC was bought by Lebanon this year, and most vendors that carry Lebanon fertilizer can get it cheaper than that. Plus in all honesty any tree that needs that much P and K (12-24-24) is in deep trouble. Look for something in a 3/1/2 ratio and as Ed said with a high % of SRN.
