Shindaiwa 500

Picked up a nice little shinny 500 yesterday. It looks like it had maybe a few hours on it. Owner had complained of it shutting off after running so shop diagnosed a bad coil and sold him a new husky. Anyone know of common issues with these? I cleaned the whole saw and checked for any obvious issues on the coil and module, but all looks new. Pulls over 160lb on the gauge and even has an almost new banana bar and chain. It'll be for sale after I cut with it a bit and check it out. Right now all it took was a bit of adjusting and the cleanup to get it running pretty cherry. Starts rediculously easy. Hate to get it dirty again testing it, but...... You got run em!

Do you know if that is the original bar? I've got a couple of 500's that look to have low hours but they don't look as nice as that one. From the looks of the bottom that one hasn't even been riding in the back of a truck.
I got a 345 awhile back that had never been fueled until I got it.

Here's what I'm thinking about the bar. I don't know if its original or not, but id guess it was replaced when it was purchased if its not shinny. The original rim sprocket shows very little wear and the bar looks to have about the same amount of wear on it. The chain is a safety chain sharpened maybe 6 times so it all would add up. It is rediculously clean. One chain popped off one time from the looks of it, but no real damage other than some marks on the catcher.
From the bottom, I'd guess it got moved around the garage more than it was used.

I just ran out and checked the bar. its an oregon #28713 BF .325. It does have a tiny bit of red in the recesses of the stamped words/#s on the bar. .???

I've got some 500's with a smaller muffler and no grid over the muffler. I don't really know but I think the grid came on latter productions. The 345 that was new came with a banana bar but I think it had a Shindaiwa stencil on it. The 500 might not be the most powerful saw built and might lack in power/weight ratio but I like that there isn't a lot of plastic on them.

Workin out

Well I put the ole girl through a full workout a few mins ago. No coil issues at all. This saw runs so well I had to rethink selling it, but too many horses in the stable. One has to go. I think I'm safe to assume the only thing wrong was the operator and the great dealer desire to sell a new saw. Off to eBay!
