Seriously having problems shipping an 044, ms200, and 020T to the Germany.

I might have better chances smuggling them in a shipment of pipebombs and box cutters. Reminds me of that freon I smuggled from Mexico inside those bales of marijuana.

Anyone ever ship a saw international??

Homeland security is great, treats us all like criminals.

TREETX,

I have to agree with Brian, I used to ship internationally on a regular basis, but since the towers, most forwarders are reluctant to take anything on.
If we ship internationally for say 3M, we would have them use their own forwarder, this did not used to be the case. Liability has made it tough at best.
C.H. Robinson is a freight forwarder that has many ties to Germany, and may be able to help.

It is kind of an F'ed situation. My problem with selling and then buying there is I can get $800-900 if I am lucky for the 3 used here. New there, they are more expensive plus take my weak a$$ dollar and that is $2500 in 3 saws.

ocean freight may work...freight guy is supposed to call back soon.

TREETX,

Just a couple of things about ocean shipping. The freight will be consolidated along with God knows what. The freight will be x-rayed, and if there is anything suspicious in the container, the whole thing gets quarantined. It could sit a week, or a month. Hard to tell sometimes. Shipping by air (if possible) circumvents the consolidation issue, and gets your stuff through customs faster, but may be cost prohibitive. Like you said, a F'ed situation.

Not that ANYONE cares..

Just thought I would post an update.

Saws ARE prohibited on aircraft.

I am shipping them surface at a very reasonable rate. 6 weeks waiting is the hitch. Saws are going in with a bunch of other personal effects, all on the manifest of course.

I'll let you know if I EVER see them again.

Thanks again for the input

any good tips on prepping saws for shipping??

I had a saw UPSed from germany.
it went ups just fine..

Cost me ???? near 150

MS 200, no T

I just checked with USPS and a 25lb package to Germany is $37.75. That sounds pretty reasonable to me as I have had guys rip me for that much sending a saw from Oregon to the midwest. I would think $40 per saw would be pretty good.

Bill

I realize you would not want to put them all together in one box but 70lbs is $76.25. A cardboard box lined with 1/8" hardboard and lots of spray foam may work.

Thanks for the replies, used saw is HazMat. No air freight. UPS is out due to that.

Surface freight was only $200 for 30 cubic feet (1 cubic meter) up to 1000lbs.

Hard to beat. Down side is 6 weeks with nuthin' but a zubat

I'll have school plus moving so I can wait. Plus it will give me some time to get some snowboarding in.:D

Finally, saws!!

Just thought I would include an update since all arrived today.

Saws and other climbing gear arrived!! Along with computer and other junk. Important part is the saws, ropes, and of course - Big Shot.

Total cost - $400

Total time - 6 weeks

transit time was short 2.5 weeks. A while just sitting on either end.

Summary - surface shipping is OK!

Regrets - That I didn't ship more saws - Chainsaws are expensive here.

Airlines inconsistent, U.S. mail o.k.

Trying to take saws as check-in baggage is like gambling--sometimes it will be allowed and sometimes not--I have experience both ways since 9/11.

No problems with going U.S. Postal Service. I have had saws mailed to me by U.S. post both air and surface--expensive but reliable (if you insure!) about $3-4/lb--Where I am (Montenegro) there is a limit of 33lbs per package. A number from this site have mailed to me.

Treetx I am interested in what company you used and how you shipped so that I can try to do something similar--please post or send me an email.

How's your German? There are some good deals on ebay.de I've wanted to bid but don't know German well enough and don't know how to pay (do they take Paypal, etc).
