Today I will be going to look at a Vermeer 1250 chipper in which I will be possibly trading a compact tractor for. It is the Perkins Diesel version.

The situation is this.

A. It ran
B. A new cluth was put in
C. Wouldn't start after this
D. Sitting for nine years since (no gas in it over this time)

I have a couple of hours to tinker and decide if its worth the trade this evening. It certainly is if the chipper can easily and affordably be put back into service. The opportunity will be gone after this and the chipper is located over an hour from me.

What should I look for in assessing this machine?

This is all the info I have.

Thanks in advance, JNGWC&TREE

Nine yrs in the sun or away somewhere, You my aswell just assume that every hydro line gonna burst and all your fuel lines will leak thats a long time without oil running through rust in the cylinders and all just be careful you don't pop a mouse trap with that

:agree2:

There was a reason it wasn't fixed and running 9 years ago. I'd bet that whatever the problem was, it cost more than it was worth for the owner at that time.

Don't you know that ignoring the problem for nine years didn't make it easier to repair; only harder to find and fix.

Unless it is being given to you for free don't waste your time. Vermeer 1250 is the worst chipper I have ever worked with. The only way for it to be a productive is to slam wood into it with an excavator to make the wheels accept a piece larger than 4 inches. Don't waste your time.

those chippers suck. suck the money right out of your jobs.Run like hell from one that runs!

I wouldn't piss on a 1230/1250 if it was on fire.

Thanks. This ended up being an "eject" situation. This chipper is beyond all life. Thanks for all the advice.

I wouldnt waste my time with it. I have a 1250 and it is a chipping machine, It has made me alot of money.
