Here's what I have been using for the past year, I switched from Oregon to the new .404 This baby will cut with the best.
Hope this helps you chain filers. Lamebert gave me this loop.

"show pic's of you ability to file"

This is 90°, 20 lines per inch file work, hand-checkering. Until I get more practice, it's the best filing I can do....

A bit more pressure not to mess this up than a chain. ;)

Oh please thats the best you could do. Here's one from Joe Bauer. Not the best picture but getting pics of guns are a little hard for a putx like me.

"Oh please thats the best you could do."

Ahhh....yeah. And my hands were about to give out on me after that checkering job. I have a 1911 done by the late, great Joe Bonar from Novaks. That is real work (not hack work like mine.)

Nice Buckmark....for a mouse gun. I'll keep my ugly .45 for serious work. :D

Shouldn't there be a couple more degrees of forward angle in that cutter, Marky? But that depth gauge,my my , where to start...

And was that with the new ATOP filing jig, a Simington, or that darned bastardized gyro grinder? Eager ASiters beg to know

what say you, "files JR"?

You wanna see my chain, here is is.

It works great, I never have to worry about impacting metal objects anymore. I just hit em an yank em out all in one easy stroke.

That colt .45 is a nice weapon, worth the $ to have in my book. My .45 aint no colt though, I got an ole fashioned musket style for home protection.

mine is an 12 gauge with the first round being quail shot..this to hopefully prevent killing one o my own thru a wall.
then theres 5 rounds o 3b buckshot coming after that.. i live in the country and urban desease is gettin closer all the time. allways felt like rite or wrong it take so long for the sheriff to get here ..
id better be ready to handle hodlums myself..i do carry a little 25 but the thats more for muggers an such when im out..
nobody ever knows i got it . hopefully never will.

I am not very good at filing. In fact, I wanted to post a pic, but could not even find my chain. I looked under "C" for "chain", and "O" for "Oregon", etc., but to no avail. Obviously, I will need to hire a secretary with the proper clerical skills.

I think you'll find the crew here most receptive. Will many persist long enough to be excellent filers...perhaps not... but they will learn enough to appreciate it when they see it. Fire away!
