Out clearing brush. Only 10 ft to go cutting 16"s on a log before quitting - out of gas. Truck with the fuel is over there across the creek so down the steep bank, across the creek, up the steep bank and, pant, pant, pant, fuel it up. Back down the steep bank, across the creek, up the steep (and high) bank again. Puff, puff (72 is showing). Pour a coffee and sit down. Why is my right hand chap leg dripping oil?

Didn't even have to look - I knew I had forgotten to put the oil cap back on (again). To add insult to injury, when I sat it down it tilted just right to pour out what oil remained - all over the saw handle of course. Trash one sweat rag trying to clean up the saw and my hand which by now was as full of oil as if I had dipped it in a bucket of it. Back across the creek twice and more oil.

All that just for about 10 minutes of cutting.

LOL, don't feel bad Harry, did that my last excursion into the woodpile, to add insult I was blabberin' to the young fella who was splittin' rounds while the oil dripped down the front leg of my chaps and filled my boot, whatta bloomin' mess! Won't be doing that anytime soon again sheesh! :bang:

 Have a cold one m8!

I got a question

If it is such a distance to the truck.. and you are making firewood rounds.. How you gonna get the wood out? tote it all out by hand?

I am clearing brush on a field edge. Getting a bit of firewood salvage as I work. Have to wait until he harvests the field before I can get the truck around there. That should be in about 2 weeks, it is spring wheat and just started turning a week ago. Then comes the real firewood cutting. Have 3 big trees that will fall out in the field to remove. Will have to work fast to get 'em all before he will want to work the ground.

i feel for ya

half the age you are and has happened too me. i have been cuttin hazard tree and had to hike a ways to get back to the truck when murfy visits. bad murfy. i find the three saw plan ideal. saw one light 12"-16" under 12#s saw 2 12"-20" under16#s saw three 12"-36" under 45#s. i take the two saws that can handle most of the job saw three stays in the truck.:chainsawguy: :hmm3grin2orange:

Haven't left the oil cap off, but not too long back I was filling the gas tank and left the gas cap off. Put the gas can back off to the side, grabbed the saw and started walking, powerful smell of fuel finally made me look down about the time my leg started feeling cold. Then, few weeks later, I had to climb up a steep hillside about a mile from home. Extremely steep. Maybe up about four hundred yards. Didn't have but a little bit to finish up so left the gas can back not at the truck, 400 yds. down the hill, but back at the house. Yup, got up there sweating and panting and had forgotten to fuel up the saw. Yup.

Same here..well, it is down to two saws now, my 041 retired with a broken handle a month ago. I had both saws up there but my limbing saw was also due to run out of gas at any moment.
