Hi. I'm just trying to get some type of estimated cost to work with if taken to a shop to rebuild an 044? Was in Texas a week ago on the Mallard Fire prepping dozer line for burnout and siezed it up. Near as I can tell so far it is not the top end, looking through the ports. The buzzing noise it made as it slowed and died indicated to me bottom end bearing. We were clearing very light brush at the time. It's not siezed solid but more "locked up"; I did get a tiny bit of movement out of the pull cord the next day but locked up now.

So this is for a wildland fire service saw and like I said I'm trying to find out from the community what an average cost for this would be. I know it can range depending on a lot of things so having an idea of that range and what is involved across the range is good info for me as I go forward with my Admin on a course of action. It is the fire season and I am inclined to find a suitable replacement PH and deal with the siezed one during the winter, or look at a new purchase. I just need quick $$ numbers to work with for Admin.

Much thanks in advance to the community for information provided. I know I could research this but it's a time thing for me with all the other things I'm backlogged on with all of our personnel. I know many of you have done these over and over and can recite the figures and even part numbers, hence why I ask all of you. Thanks so much guys

Go Buy an MS461R & get back to work.

The 044 will need to be split & the bearings replaced, new seals, new rubber bits, new piston with rings, & potentially a new Cylinder: minimum $300 but probably closer to $450 with shop labor.

What mix & ratio do you run?

That "closer to $450" figure was what I had kicking around in my head with all you mentioned. That's why I ask as there are comparable PH's on the trading post for around that. On the mix, typically 40-50:1, the orange bottle Stihl stuff. Have already been obtaining quotes for new, 362's for project work, 441's and 461's for fire use, and yes, all R's.
