i haven't had the grcs long and was wondering what would be the best size to use. when i used the grcs to get me up in the tree i was using arbormaster rope and it seemed like it was spinned or not grabbing on the winch. I thought that it could be that i never had it around the winch properly or that the rope was very slick being so new. since then i have watched the video again and now i know how to wrap the rope. if anyone has some feed back it would be greatly appreciated.

For lifting, it is best to fill the capstan with wraps, then install the line in the self tailer. Sounds like you figured this out.

For heavy lowering, 5/8th rope is the largest that works well. 3 wraps with 3/4 inch line is all that will fit on the capstan, which isn't enough to be able to control a section that weighs a lot, as in over 1000 pounds. For heavy lowering, you need to use the fixed bollard..or better, a Hobbs.

I agree. We did a 75 ft. maple that was 4 ft. from the corner of the house. We brushed it out Friday evening with the GRCS but we went to the Hobbs for the big stuff on Saturday morning.

I lkie a 1/2 inch double braid for most every day work.

You want at least 5 wraps, what i doo us take 4 turns, reaf some tension in, add another one or two truns then over the thimble and through the jaws.
