Anyone here use a skid steer splitter? I built one after gettingt mad at trying to keep up a stand alones engine. I built onethat mounts on my loader upside down with a 3 way wedge. I split the big rounds the tree co drops off here. When they are down to managable chunks I undo the splitter and turn it over and then splitthem down to smaller grades.

Got pics?

Pics would be nice. I decided against it since I don't want to run the hours meter on the skid steer for that kind of work.

Its not really hard on the loader, with the 3 way wedge. Also its main use is busting big rounds. and pruning limbs. I will add the 4th wedge later this month. Most of the rounds Im busting now are 48 inchers. I busted some too big to load on the dump last week. I hope to have a few pics this comming week my camera is in the shop.

What size skidsteer you got it on? I debated back and forth about building one, ended up building on for the excavator.

:agree2:

I didn't want to run up the hours on my machine, and they were expensive to buy at a retail price for what you get.

I bought this one and then modified it. The big bottom splitter is run from operators seat and the smaller splitter is run from the lever on the valve. It just takes switching the quick connect hoses to the splitter of choice.
I believe in using my diesel engines when in off season rather than not using them. It's when they never get used is when they show their age.

I bought this old 3 point style and rebuilt it.

Then welded it on top of the other one and have best of both worlds.

How many hours would one actually put on a machine in a year? If just spliting for him self, not that much. I put about 1500 to 2000 hours a year on a machine, I dont think another 50 hours a year to split some wood will hurt it..... besides, I bought them to use, and they dont last forever.

:agree2: The machines are to use.

I have to ask, what are your storage bins made out of? I would love to have about 50 of those things!

Looks like a shipping container to me. The ones you see on a semi or a cargo ship. Guy down the road has a couple of them.

yep, plastic shipping containers and also called pallet boxes and you can find these used or new if you scout the internet. I have forks for machine and these containers have 45 inch and 48 inch wide fork holes.

My skid steer is a little 53 HP 1840 Case. I cant lift the rounds to split them. till they are smaller. I have to occasionally back up whlie splitting some of the 60 inch rounds. I plan to later make the wedge work in on the ram to split the giant ones. I broke mine today splitting a hickory log. I just broke the slide flange that the ram plate has to hold it to the beam. I middle way of the log i hit some resistance. Turns out i sheared part way through and old tpost.
