Some of you guys were watching this saw on the bay.
I was the lucky winner.
Skil 1690 at 139cc's it had a coil wire issue which i
repaired and needed a cleaning on the points. She now
runs like a top. I can't believe the power this saw has
for a vintage saw. It will take a SP125 and wipe it's you
know what. It has a bad chain that i gave a quickie sharpen
but needs a new one. All in All a pretty clean saw with it's
original Skil chain.

She is a beauty that is for sure, good score Lee. I was going to bid that saw up but got a better offer on something else that took my eye. Hope it works good for you.

Now those is fighten words, LOL. Never even knew that Skil made a chain saw, let alone one with 139 cc's. Do you know any of the history of this saw, or is it just a ebay find with no info. Congrats on the find, I never did figure out what the secret bidding war was over, must be pretty rare. I'd love to get my SP into top condition and have a race. Perhaps someday it will happen. Best of luck with this beast. By the way what is the bar length, it looks about a mile and a half in that one head on picture. JR

Lucky fella!

I always wanted one of these saws but they aren't around in my neck of the woods.

The biggest of the PM Canadien/Skil stuff over here are the 125cc ones - the 275, 276, 380 and 385. Also hen's teeth, but I really wanted the Skil 1690.

Have fun with it and should you need parts, most of the parts are interchangeable with the smaller Canadien saws like the 270 (95cc), but I guess you already knew that.

I don't know any history on this saw. It was just an Ebay
find. Although i believe it has the original chain as it is stamped Skil on it so i don't think the saw has seen much use. It doe's have some paint loss but probably from being
moved around and stored for so long.
The bar is only 36 inch and has 404 .058 chain.

I have to agree with JR, you have pictures of a cleaned up saw but no fresh cut wood to prove your point...

Actually I'm just jealous of anyone with something I don't have.

I did get to run a few of my big saws this weekend, but that's another thread (Good day for McCulloch).

Ya know, I'm drawn to certain styles of things for no apparent reason.

Italian Motorcycles, 50's appliances, turn of the century buildings, Early 60's cars..

That saw has probably the most astheticly pleasing lines of any piece of OPE ever made, and because of that, it looks great even if it's a bit scuffed up.

Damn nice saw!!!

Congrats on the snag!!

Stay safe!

That is a good looking 1690, congratulations. Much more impressive collectors find than most of the big saws out there.

You have to love saws with kick stands.

Looks nice. I'd beg to differ on it out cutting a sp125 with a 3' bar as I would think the saw would turn around 6500 rpm in the cut. If you put a 5' bar on it then you would see the added benefit of the extra 16cc.

:agree2:

That saw is #2 on my big-old-saw wish list behind a Mac 125. Already got the 090 covered, that was the other one that rounded out my top 3.

I love the look of those old PM/Skil saws too. Especially the muffler on this 1690 - you can tell that thing means business!

Lee, have you figured out the video thing yet? I would love to see this saw cutting.

Funny you should ask, I have managed to get the video
thing down and uploaded to my computer but can't get it uploaded to Photobucket. Seems my videos are to big.
i have been told to try YOUTUBE but haven't had the time
to get into that. I do have a few saws i would like to show the AS members here so i guess i have to get my but in gear.
