So, Vince came up to peaceful Fryerstown,in rural Victoria where I live with a dozen saws for us to try out.
Down at the local graveyard, there were a couple of pretty large fallen eucalypts that I'd been asked to remove,so we unloaded the saws amongst the old graves ,fired em up,and made a lot of woodchips and a hell of a racket.
We had a lot to play with, here's a partial list (what i can remember) of what we compared(mainly stihl)
044 x 4 ,stock,apart from one dual port muffler.(all 10mm,apart from one mysterious anomaly)
my 460 that Vince just hotrodded for me (man, what a difference)
hotrod 180c (with "easy start"!)
Masterminded 461, 660, 261c, 362, 441c
stock 362c
064av
07s
084
a couple of oily husky's
We were both cutting, and passing saws back and forth like kids in a comic shop, and soon reduced some big timber to unusable fragments.
a couple of times ,cars came up the dirt road to the graveyard(which is usually very quiet and isolated)
possibly to pay their respects to a departed relative,or just to bask in the peaceful serenity (it being sunday, after all)
They would park, get out of the car, take one look at two lunatics surrounded by a sea of chainsaws making an awful racket, and depart hastily.
The dead were rolling in their graves no doubt.
anyway, one of the clear winners was the Mastermind 461,a real Bruce Lee of a saw.
I also really liked the 261,fantastic,light and powerful,i'm going to get one and have it modded.
My 460 went from being a slightly stodgy porker to having great power, thanks to Vince working some voodoo on it.
Comparing the 4 044's was fun,in all honesty, the only one that felt any different to me ,was the DP muffler.
A really good day, albeit slightly disrespectful to them that "have gone before", after a few months of not wooddogging,it was great to get back on a saw(or ten)
