Skull bucket: Anyone ever use one with the face shield, a la Madsen's? I wear the other ball cap type helmet, and I don't like glasses due to sweat and fog, but I've heard the aluminum hats are much cooler in the heat. And I'm not tough enough to go sans eye protection.

So is the face shield functional? Sturdy? Thanks.

i have one that i put on my MAC T aluminum hat, used it half a day and took it off, it is heavy, and to big, it reminds me of a beekeepers face mask

I don't know about the Skull buckets, but I have two MacT hats and They are hot in the summer. Its easy to test. Wait until its about 90 deg. and set a plastic hat and an aluminum one i
in the sun. You wont be wearing the metal one that day.
Try some screen glasses.

I like the Bugz. Even more since a guy told me they made motorcycle goggles in the same style. I don't lose them because I drop them down around my neck when not wanting them on. They've gone up in price about a dollar, I think they were $21 at the saw shop. I'm thinking they are actually called shield somethings but the strap has Bugz on it.

I think unpainted tin is way cooler than plastic in the summer..

What I'd like to say is... you think tin is way cooler, period.

But instead I'll say, you're who I heard say it is way cooler, ansd since you know our humidity and summer misery.....

Even the nicest cap style orange plastic hats imo dont compare to the full brim tin hat. You will forget it's there way befor you forget that dang piece of plastic is there.

but your hair provided its long enough will freeze to the hat if its cold enough

I sold my Skull Bucket to my boss. I have a big head (actually I have a really big brain and that is why I am so awesomely smart) so the SB just didn't fit me right. I fit best into a Bullard hard hat though my (too) old Husqvarna is pretty comfy too. I just bought the face shield bracket and pop rivet an old screen om it. I'll post a pic in a day or two.

I used to always wear the plastic husquvarna hat with the sheild and muffs but i got a skull bucket and its way lighter ad cooler. its the yellow one, i think any lighter colored one will be cooler (reflects the sun more). but yea not having a screen is a sacrafice that must be made with one. I like ear plugs more than the muffs any way and i tended to not put my screen down till i had already got wacked in the eye any way. (kinda slow like that :dizzy: )

Yea, those ear muffs are too hot for me even when its freezing out. The face screens are always in the way and hanging up. I like screen glasses/goggles and ear plugs.

I dont get it about the tin hats being cooler. Unless you mean "cooler" I agree they do look better. If it is not hot and you are in the shade they actually feel cool to the touch. And there is not much difference until it gets really hot and you are in the direct sunlight. Aluminum is a thermal? conductor and is used in cook pots and solar panels. This is for a good reason.
I like a tin hat until it gets hot, but then its a white full brim plastic.

Thanks for the input. Really, I am looking at temperature difference, perhaps Ms. P can provide conclusive decision on the true cool factor, as this is a question of fashion the other subject implies. 2dogs, interested in your pictures. Thanks.
