man, talk about climbing the walls. usally we put everthing up for the year and wait for the snow but it hasnt snowed yet! and no one wants to spend their money on trees with christmas coming! i work for my brother during the winter but didnt plan on puttin in 40 a week with him( its boring!). oh well, springs just 3 months away!

We have had snow for about a week now. Need a new layer, this is all tracked up by snowmobiles. Ice is 4"+ so the ice fishing has started too. I am in sunny, cool North Dakota. Took down a tree about a week ago, but am in my winter job of teaching college. Will be happy when it warms up and I can start making real wages to support this hobby.

Yeah my buddy is doing jobs later into the year also. He has been shut down by this time the last several years. There is still work here in Michigan though. Mostly senior citizens. We have been doing mostly trim work. Where are you located

Dragging brush through a foot of powder...frozen rope...fingers sticking to carabiners...ah yes, it's all coming back to me now :D Hasn't snowed here yet, but I haven't missed it.

We had about 6" last week here in western Mass. It's just about gone now but that's only because I was planning on going hunting tomorrow with the ole 56 caliber blackpowder. The weather here has been crazy-much warmer than normal and low precip. Good for tree work but bad for snowmobiling. Last year we had so much snow we could hardly move around outside. I remember stepping off the Arctic Cat and going in almost to my waist, and I'm 6'2". Unusual for this area anyways. Good for the plowing business though.

we dont really stop because of the snow, its that customers dont ever call during the winter, about the middle of feb well start gettting calls and will schedule about 30 to 40 jobs before spring gets here, why? i dont know, but thats the way it works around here, thats why we go after snow remonal, signed a last minute account today, about 4 acres of black top:D !

We work very hard through the summer, when we are too busy, selling winter work.
Trees on lake shores that can be dropped on the ice, Oak trimming to avoid Wilt, Elm trimming to avoid DED, work suited to frozen ground conditions, and some jobs that can be discounted if the customer lets us come at our leisure.

I liked those where the client wanted to ****er the price. Well I'll discount to do it at my convieniance. If it slows down I'll call two days prior, but I may not get to it till winter. Oh and I would like $50 for ernest money.

Hehe, I had to laugh at that one, because it reminds me of the scene in the movie The Money Pit.
You know what I'm talking about? Where the plumber screams up in a Corvette and says he won't even get out of the car until he gets some Scotch.
Then, afraid he would leave, Tom Hanks gives him some Scotch and the guy quotes him some huge amuont. Hanks asks how he can estamte it without looking and the plumber tells him he looked at it 3 years ago and he doubted it got better on it's own!
Then he gets back in his 'vette and tears rubber out the driveway laughing at the top of his lungs.
Good estamating techinque!

Wow, the site edits out D*cker as in relentless atemps at negotiating?

Ernest money is basicaly a nonrefundable downpayment. Dont you hate it when you show for a job and find it already done?

Has nothing to do with an arogance. But I did like the movie.

I personally am praying for no snow. I just want for the ground to be frozen every once in a while, or moderatley frozen. I wanna do some land clearing this winter and that isn't a great time to be had when there is a foot of snow covering the stumps :(. When there is snow though I usually get asked to do some residential removals because the ground is frozen and therefore there is less damage done to the turf.
