here in central va we are all slow too, the beginning of spring
i ran out of work which has never happened befor. we then had a big storm and got busy for a while. i hear the guys in the carolinas are letting their guys go. the housing market is crashing so i think we are going to have a few bad years.........hope not...

I'm marketing my bobcat more this season but still staying moderately steady with tree work.

Nice to have the bobcat as I can do a multitude of services with it when tree work slows.

we work 5 days a week year round ! - the holidays

but we have been in bis for 19 years so we have a lot of repeat bis and do not do to much residential work and we are diversified we do

tree work
demolition
grading / excavation

Yah its been kinda slow out here this year. Most of the guys I know in the, tree, lawn & excavating businesses have been saying the same thing.

same here. off peak season 5 days a week 8 hours a day. peak season 6 days a week averaging 9-10hrs a day

47yrs in business. repeat customers is the key. the ones that call you and just say "Come do it" and don't even waste your time with an estimate

This is supposed to be the commercial arborist section of the forum, hence commercial arborist should be very aware that the spring and hot summer months are when tree killing insects are flying around looking for stressed trees to kill. Pruning certain species of trees at this time of year is like ringing the dinner bell for these bugs. Real arborists are keenly aware of this fact and caution their valued clients to put off pruning of certain tree species like pines and eucs etc. until the fall as a matter of their responsible professional list of duties.

It's always been that way, and I can't tell you how many times I've cut down beetle kills here for irate customers that unknowingly had their trees pruned by yahoos in the hot summer months, and got educated the hard way.

Summer is slow for pruning contracts for a very good reason!
