I just picked up a kohler pro 12 for short $. elec.start. my question is there is black and red wires going to the starter, and 2 white wires comming out of the engine that i dont know where they go. Thaanks for any help. Kevin

If you go to the Kohler site you can download the service manual that is specific to your engine. They contain wiring schematics.

IIRC, when you get to the download portion they ask you to pay - just ignore that part and proceed. You will end up with a download link.

electric start

should have 2 wires from the alternator that go to a voltage regulator for a charging circuit. Another wire for ignition kill . In addition later commercial Kohler uses a fuel shutoff on the carb and can have a low oil pressure shutdown. Trace them out, see where they attach.

the two whites are stator wires (A/C) and need to be plugged into the voltage regulator/rectifier.....
what vintage is the engine? a Pro is actually a Yamaha, awesome engines, as good as or better than a Honda.....
