Yes it is safe. Most people use 3/8" on 066/660's or 394/395's, which are only slightly smaller. Some even run 3/8" on 088's, 084's, or 3120's. Your 2100 will be perfectly fine with it.

3/8 will work on about any large modern saw. i have heard rumors of .404 being phased out but we will just see about that. it would make things alot easier for dealers as there would be less rarely selling stuff to stock.

Somehow I doubt .404 being phased out, since its a regional thing, some people really do like .404 for one reason or another. it may be phased out in your area, and be exactly the opposite in another region.

Have run a fair bit of .325 on a bumped up 066, even on pipe the chain has held together fine. Can be a fast combo in small wood, but 3/8 is faster in most cases.

I run 3/8 x .050 on both my 2100's. No problems, I think that is what they came with stock so if it is running .404 it was added on.

I hope not, its hard enough to find .404 chisel around here as it is. If they quit making it then it would be like the 1/2 inch stuff that no one can afford.
