I just fixed a Homelite Xl-12 for a old (78) neighbor. The short version: he "always" used old engine oil for bar oil, but about 10 years ago he just couldn't get it to run, mutter... mutter... just threw it the basement corner. 10 years later the truth was obvious; thick black goo oil sludge in the fuel tank... and carb. Hmmm, I'd never admit to putting bar oil in my fuel tank either! :)

So now it's running just fine but I noticed it wasn't dripping oil when running. The Manual Oiler works just great. I was about to tear into it to fix the oil pump when the thought occured to me - does it even have an oil pump? or is it just manual?

I'm not positive about this, but I know the original XL-12 had no auto oiler. I think the early Homelite saws with automatic oilers had "auto" or "automatic" in the model number.

Lakeside, seems to me you just don't appreciate fine old iron. Just funnin ya, dont take it serious. Is that XL-12 red or blue? Just curious.

I love old iron, but... Stihl's my obsession... oh, I do have a Homelite Zip - Blue with a cast brass dog (old enough for you?) :)

It's red.
