We did a total of 11 removals today. New construction development. Lots of dead trees in this area thanks to careless builders. very rich neighborhood. large properties/large homes.

At house #1 we did 1 95ft co-dom tulip poplar over top of crepe mytles and in betwen an ashpault driveway. 1 small 50ft tulip poplar and a few medium red and white oaks. They were widening the driveway. house #2 was a few small dead white oaks in backyard and some trimming in front yard branches touching the house. Both of these jobs were going on at the same time. After the one crew, not the crew I was on, finished I sent them to house #3. Was some easy pull overs, should take them all but a few hrs.

I get a call from my customer, house #3. Saying there was a guy watching you guys work while at house number #2. He then drove over to my house, walked in the back yard, looked at your yellow tape marked on the trees and then rang my door bell. The customer thought maybe he was an employee of ours, even though he wasnt wearing our uniform, he thought nothing of it until...."Whatever they are charging you make sure it's no more than $350, Ive seen the trees in the back too. They arent charging you more than $350 are they?"

My customer told this door knocker "I have a contact with them and I stand by my word, but maybe next time leave a card in my mailbox."
So when I drop by to get paid I find this out and the customer tells me all this and wanted to let me know there is a guy following us trying to see where our jobs are out then trying to undercut my prices.

The customer and I go out to his mailbox to see if we can find out who this SOB is. No card. Go figure. All i know, lots of tatoos, bleach blond hair about 30yrs old, skinny.

Ive been getting undercut a lot this year. I try not to mark the trees until the morning of so hacks passing by can not see the potential of a job. Ive learned this lesson a long time ago. Marking trees for removal invites more bids, but who would of thought marking the trees that morning while on the same street one could potentially be undercut.

He's got some stones trying to under cut you one house over. I was talking to one of my customers last week. He says that the older couple across the street from him (another customer of mine) has a cedar tree that has browned out over a very short time and looks very dead. He says that the older man was out side and some fly-by-nighter stops by and gives him a quote to remove it. Not a big deal right... Then a few hours later this guy stops by again with a new quote that's 20 or 40 bucks cheaper. Then, as icing on the cake the same guy stops buy a few days later... The only one home is the elderly wife, so he has a new lower quote for the cedar. Oh, and while he is there he notices that there are a lot of trees in the back yard that he should take down while he does the cedar. Lucky for them she is one of those strong ole farmer type wives, I guess she tells him were to go and shoos him off the property. So as I type this tonight, I am telling my wife this story. She then asks why the tree died so quick, and for the life of me I could not give her a good answer why the fast death. So this gets me thinking... Did this guy see and old couple with a nice yard and think that he could make a quick buck by doing something to the tree. So next week when I am in that area I plan on stopping by and taking a look at the trunk and see if something is going on. It was a very sudden death, and very interesting he happen to stop by just after it. There is some cut throat pricing going on right now for sure. I hope you can figure out who this guy is and protect you and your customers from him.

Man, I'd be fighting mad over that. I have had similar and worse happen before. Thank God most people can see through the unscrupulous hacks.
