I met Bert when he bought an extra bar from me on Craigslist. We shared some milling talk and have been in touch ever since.

He had some nice cedar logs from a tree that was removed by one of his neighbors. It was four logs in total and we milled it right in his culdesack. Ive never milled in such an urban setting. Most neighbors seemed to really appreciate the wood.

It was my first time milling soft wood and with my new to me 084. We took a compression reading before hand and could only get 110. Saw ran well but sure seemed slow to me compared to my 076. I took a chance on two really clean ones, and seems to me that they both will need some work. It was four stroking in the cut, so Bert seemed to think it may just need a tune. I'm hoping that's all it is but I'm not holding my breath.

Nice work the cedar sure looks nice. I was surprised by how grippy the 076 super was when milling with it. Do you have anything specific lined up for the wood?

I don't have any specific plans myself. Not sure what Bert is planning for his either. I went home with 4 nice slabs two of which were from the trunk. Couldn't fit any of those 11' ones in my electrical van lol.

The elderly woman who's tree we milled was nice enough to give me this cool redwood piece they had in their attic for a long time. She wanted it to go to someone who appreciatesd it. Obviously Bert an I fit the bill. I plan on hanging it on the wall somewhere in my future man cave. image.jpg
Pic isn't great but it sure is an interesting piece.

Bert is located in Moorestown NJ and I'm located in Ambler, PA. If you're close enough to me I could always use some help. We have an insane amount of wood available to us.

Good job dawgs! It's a positive thing when urbanites can witness what can actually come out of a would be firewood/toll bros rose garden mulch and into something that can last centuries. Bigoak, stay in touch. Shop time coming soon with 70+ degrees on the horizon. Two flights set of open riser stairs is on the front burner all out of milled stock.

For sure John. Are the risers for a job or for your shop? We gotta get back to the yard ASAP. My Panther mill should be coming any day now.

What kind of cedar? Very light in color.
No idea. I think Bert knew because he saw it standing. I don't know the different varieties of cedars too well. We both were surprised that it didn't have much of a smell after milling. I just moved them into my basement yesterday and threw a fan on them. At 3" they were a bear to carry all the way around my house. Basement never smelled so good now that the sap is making its way out.

For a job. They're going to be heavy once assembled. 8/4. I never did get new chains yet. Was waiting for another guy to go in on a 100' roll but haven't heard from him in months. Bailey's I guess.

What size chain are you looking to get? I'm pretty sure my Panther mill is at my dads house when I get home from work.
