Got a chance to mill a small Walnut I've had drying for a year now. My plan with this tree is benches so the boards are 2 1/8 thick. Saw is a Craftsman 5.2 (Poulan 5200) and did surprisingly well.

mweba, the walnut looks great, nice job. What type of chain are you using?

Thanks, was pleased at the turn out. The chain used was chipper at 20 D. I had no intention to use this saw but my brother in law borrowed the 394 and rocked the chain. In the long run, I'm happy he did, due to the finish the chipper left.

Looking for leg ideas if anyone has some....

I'm just getting setup with the stihl 660 with nine foot ez rails (going together tonight), will start on some white pine which will be my first run milling.

Good deal.

Time doesn't allow me to do much milling but it is addictive. My setup is cheap and crude but it works for what I need.

Birch is what I practiced on. Didn't want to ruin the good stuff ya know.

I have a bunch of smaller walnut I just cut down. Too big to go to the local chip pile, it's in the 5-10 inch diameter region.

That may be the direction I head. Been googling benches for ideas.

Thanks for the pics, mweba. I'm jealous of your walnut.

BobL will be along to talk to you about milling on your knees. :msp_razz:

I know, I know, not good practice LOL. I deserve it. Did use the loader to move it into the shade at least :D

looks good. glad to hear the saw worked out. better that way than the other way round. (ie big saw breaking down and no milling progress). i saw some fine furniture pics where the builder used live edge slabs like you have but then made a square base which looked more modern. i thought the combination was pretty cool. ill try to find the link for you...

Thanks for the link. In my search, I had not seen one exactly like that. Mix of old and new.
