Species ID Request

Hello, I ran across a batch of what may be some type of ceder. It has a vibrant violet color but not a lot of scent with a stringy bark and is medium weight. I'm in northern Maryland which is where the wood was cut. The piece next to it is oak for comparisons sake.

a picture of the barkwould be helpful. Im guessing that coloration is a some kind of rot or some mineral staining

Red cedar. It'll fade to brown w/ time.

Eastern Red Cedar. It makes for one heck of a fire when dry. I burn it in the firepit every so often, smells nice.

i love eastern red cedar , i scrounge every bit i can , i burn it in the wood stove , and use it to smoke trout .

Although I didn't know what it was, I did know it was probably something special so I put it aside in it's own separate pile.

I always get requests for fruit woods for smoking. That smoked trout sounds real good.

Keep it for mosquito season... then fresh-split it and hang a small one under each of your pieces of outdoor lawn furniture.
