I recently purchased a 22 ton Speeco log splitter "in the box" from Farm Fleet. Speeco also make Huskee splitters. As I opened it up and started to assemble I noticed that the quality of welding, especially on the shorter lengths of weld on the beam, were sloppy in places and inconsistent. They were not bad enough for me to hassle getting it back on the pallet and up into my pickup to return but poor enough to raise long term reliability concerns in my mind. I shared my concerns and pictures with Speeco. I am told that their engineer thinks the welds look fine. So I will use it and see what happens over time. Speecos are not top of the line splitters or the highest cost either, but I think they should still have better quality control on their welds. My suggestion to folks looking at the Speeco splitters is to take a close look at their construction and draw your own conclusions before purchasing.

I've had mine(28 ton) for approx 4 years now(10.5 I/C B&S engine) Not one problem. Welds look great. I heard that their making them cheaper now (Honeycomb foot plate, thinner steel, smaller engines etc.) I can't confirm this though.Speeco has excellant customer serviceand any problem you have they should take care of.

I am glad you have a good splitter, hope mine turns out the same. Speeco customer service did not seem to want to spend much time dealing with my concerns. One sentence response. Not too impressive.

I could but it would sure be a hassle to disassemble now and get it back up in the truck etc. I will live with it and hope that the sloppy welds hold up.

You had to assemble your splitter!!1. Mine was already assembled at the store. Whats up with that?

Most of the Speeco built stuff I see comes assembled. The TSC stuff is free assembly to boot. Did you prefer it in the crate? I guess it would make it easier to get home rather than towing it.

Assembly was $100 extra at Fleet Farm and I would rather put it together myself so I know it was done right, especially the wheel bearing tightness. Also, I did not want to pull the splitter down the highway.
