I was given a used Spencer tape but I'm not sure if the right refill tape is in it. It says 100' and on the back it is for diameters. The engraved number on the back is Us240817 I think. Are all the Spencer cases the same size? This one is a 4 1/4'" diameter. I'm wondering if someone put a 100 tape on a 50" spool. The tape spools in very slow. I cranked up the spring as tight as I could get it now it spools but I can only get like 35' to spool out. I have no real use for the 100' tape would I be better off putting a shorter tape on it? Any help would be appreciated.

50' is more than enough unless you're cutting to 70ft or something crazy, most of the time I'm using less than 20ft of the tape

I believe there's a difference but I'm not certain, get a 50ft refill (with diameter and the nail), then rewind it but do NOT tighten the spring all the way, only enough to reel in the last little bit and maybe another half turn, clock springs don't like to be pulled to their max repeatedly

you got yourself a VERY high quality tape that should last a long, long time, just keep it out of the mud if you can, they aren't cheap but so so worth it
