I saw a post on a tractor forum that Poulan says only a dealer/servicer is supposed to adjust carbs. If anyone is caught selling the splined tool to a individual it is a 3500 fine. Is this true?

I doubt it but with the politics today, who knows? My neighbor told me they sold the carb splined tool at Sears but I never checked. Why not take a piece of copper tubing, just the size to go over the adj. screw and push it over it and use it to turn the screw? The soft copper will make it's own splines. I've done it several times, not pro looking but works

i got mine off fleabay,, i already had 1 but the auction was for 5 of them,,now i have extras
I also just bought a set from fleabay that has the 4 different adjusting tools.
1. spline
2. spline with a notch. what my weed eater uses.
3. a D shape.
4. a double D shape.
I also bought a tool bag for 10 bucks and started putting all my specialized tools for chainsaws and small engine repair in one place.

Yes, the Poulan techs undergo 3 years of special schooling, and a rigorous battery of tests before they can work for the prestigious Poulan

Just did this today to a blower with splined screws AND a the screws were set down into a metal sleeve.

You've been reading Yesterdays Tractor again eh? Good intentions over there, but some of the country club set that hangs there is a little odd and tends to get the keyboard in gear before the brain kicks in.
I bought mine from Edge and Engine I think.

I bought the double D tool for my Ryobi (Redmax) and all in all I think it's less of a pain than pulling limiter caps.
Perhaps Poulan might have a contract that enables them to fine their own dealers for selling the adjustment tool -- wait, that's right, they don't HAVE any dealers. Just box stores and mail order outfits that don't service anything, and don't sell a carb adjustment tool for the same reason they don't sell a piston stop. It's hogwash.

that special screwdriver isn't very long so when I used it to poke the guts out of my catalytic converter on the truck I had to go from both sides.
You know what? Your spewing some hogwash. I keep hearing this about Poulan not haveing any dealers and I dont know about Pittsburg but I just looked up the service locator on the Poulan Pro website and there are about 10 servicing dealers listed within 30 miles of my house.
Even if you buy one at a box store, there are plenty of servicing dealers around here that will service them.
More then one dealer has told me that Poulan is the easiest to work with for warranty repairs as well.
So I have to disagree with you.
EDIT, dont belive me, I just checked the service locater for Pittsburg, maybe you should do the same?

Fair enough, Mark, I respect you and I admit I shot from the hip on that one. I looked up the dealer locator for my zip code. Of the six dealers that popped up, four are small engine shops. Two I don't know, one is a weedy little place with a yard full of rusty used mowers but I do recall seeing a yellow Poulan sign. Another is a good place, sells mowers, probably the best local bet for service even if they don't do much with saws. Of the remaining two, one is a Stihl/Echo dealer that I know well and I've never seen a Poulan saw in there. Maybe lawn stuff out front, but I don't think they have a sign. Wouldn't take a Stihl saw there for service, let alone a Poulan from TSC. The other is a hardware store that doesn't have a service department. The only place I've seen Poulans for sale is in box stores. Of course, if I lengthened the radius there would be more dealers, I'm just sticking to my home turf. I'm glad for the Poulan dealer network to be more widespread than I imagined but close to home I'm seeing more quantity than quality. I know there are 10 in your area, would you consider them on par with a good Stihl or Husky dealer?
Anyway, I concede the point; Poulan still has dealers. I'm honestly curious to know if anybody here has done business with one.

I got mine at the local autoparts store that is big into lawnmower stuff and such. I think 1 was 4 dollars and the other was 6 dollars .1 splined the other splined with a notch. I like em it's real easy to tune while running stays on the screw well Termite
Some of the box stores have a service department. I guess you'd call a Rural King store a box store. Our closest Rural King sells Poulan saws and also services them. I've talked to the main fellow in their service department and he seems to know what he's doing.

Closest Rural King to me is over 100 miles, but from the website it looks like a nice store.
I was just citing one example that I know of first-hand. I'm sure that I have dealers closer to me than that Rural King store. They sell Poulan saws within 3 miles from my house but I wasn't sure of whether they service them or not.
Thats not a good question to ask me. The Stihl dealers around here are the reason I dont own one Stihl saw at this time.
But yeah I do some business with the Poulan service place here quite often, but to be honest, I order alot of parts from a real dealer out of state, mostly for the convience and time savings because of living in a rual area and working alot of overtime.
