anyone else ever notice that smaller splits burn WAY better than larger ones?

I did most of my splitting by hand last summer so I have alot of those " good enough for government workers" sizes. Meaning they are big because I gave up on them.
My smaller pieces burn just wicked and the same wood but in larger pieces burn at a slower pace.

I have been burning some larger pieces lately, now that I have a new Electric splitter, I split some of them in the living room. WOW what a difference in burn rates.

My method

Ya want about 3 sizes in the pile.
Baby bear, momma bear, pappa bear.... (sorry...)

If I can't hold the piece with one hand (from end), then it is to big. Split it again. A buddy of mine is trying to see how long of a burn time he can get, and is stuffing 12" logs in there!!

You must have a very understanding wife !!!

She sat there with the baby as I explained to my 2 year old what daddy's new toy does. When the wood popped the baby never flinched and the 2 year old kept saying "whoa"

The only thing the wife said was, "don't forget to pick up those small wood pieces, I just vacuumed"
