What do you guys recommend? What is the minimum you would use?

I am thinking 1" thick plate with some serious bottom stiffeners, or 1.5" unsupported.

Looking at about 10" stick out from the beam.

What say you?

I used a couple 5/8" thick scrap I welded together. I have seen if bow a few times on some really nasty stuff, but always springs back. Roughly 12" wide x 10" tall. I would not go any smaller if you plan on splitting large rounds. Also, I am not a fan of the store bought plates that are too thick, you get hung up loading vertically and too small footprint. Pics on way

Yeah, it is actually right 1 1/4", that last pic is a little deceiving
