I recently had a guy call and ask for 2 quotes. 1 for removal of 3 Norway Maples. The other a quote for me coming to his house with my splitter and splitting about 3/4-1 cord of rounds he has stacked by his garage, and stack the wood when done. It was a referal from a friend who has sent me quite a bit of tree work, so I told him I'd give him a little better deal. I have never been asked to split someone elses wood, so I did a little researching, and decided to charge $100 for the splitting and stacking. After giving the estimate I called the guy who reffered me to the " client " and told him what I gave for a bid. He thought is was fair. Once you figure in in time, gas, and labor involved, I thought maybe it's was a little too low, but money is money now a days. That was right before Thanksgiving. Havn't heard a word from him, adn am not sure if I should be irritated that he hasn't called, or did I overcharge???? The " client " said he would contact me when he's ready. Am I wrong in being this annoyed about it??

well hell, wouldn't it cost him that much to rent a splitter?

sounds fair to me. and i wouldn't (i'm no pro) have bid it w/o looking over the wood to be split. i've seen some funky cut wood out there--long, unsquare, 3" nubs...

don't worry none no more about it.

I did see it, all clean, looked easy enough to split, and a log splitter rental is $65/day + insurance, gas etc... I am more and more thinking I should have said at least $125. I'll admit I am also a bit pissy becasue one of the guys I " partner " with to do tree jobs screwed us/me out of 2 jobs, and financially I can't have that, I'm done with him. I have a few landscapers that I give a cut to when they help line me up with a job, and 1 guy that gets jobs, but no longer has the gear or kness for climbing. Well bad knees has a problem getting back to me, and I don't want him to think I'm screwing him out of his cut by just doing it, so I waited to hear from him ( over a month ). Got a hold of him, contacted customer, they went with someone else because they hadn't heard from me. What the hell am I to do????

Don't think it was communication issue. I have his info, he has mine. Bob, the landscaper friend who referred me to him, said he's tighter than 2 coats of paint, so I think he wants a lot for a little. No thought for work involved.
