ok the 044 case has a bolt in the very front of the oil tank there appears to be no head on this bolt or a completely different head what is used to remove it? or is it just a pin? thanks chris

Yes, there are two pins. One is near the front and one in the crankcase circle area. There is also a bolt near each, On the front one I think the bolt hole may be covered by the dawg so you may have to remove it. The bolt is at the bottom of a fairly deep hole so it may be covered by sawdust, oil or other junk. The pins can be tapped out but be sure to get all of the bolts. Mike

ok all the bolts are off now how do i get the case off the crankshaft its loose i can pivot both sides

I first heat the case with a heat gun. I then use a brass hammer and hit the flywheel side of the crank with the nut on and threaded so it is even with the end of the crank. I do the same on the clutch side with an e-clip on. The case it normally hot enough to pop right apart in the first couple blows.

Be sure to drain your oil!

got it apart but i still have to pull the 046 apart for bearings its got a tank full of gas through it after a full on rebuild then it got crushed

Hitting the crank is not good for the crank or the bearings... and that technique will have low success on the saws with a steel insert in the clutch side bearing mount. like 044/046.. etc..

It's not going to be much help... the clutch side bearing on the 046 is NOT the same as the 044..

I guess I was refering to the crank shaft. I will be doing it more so I should invest in the AS and ZS service tools.
Hardly anything I do is proper anyway.

You can do the same thing with a piece of angle iron etc , for the odd job... it's in the 066 case split thread referenced above.

lakeside i olny need the flywheel side bering i do have a service manual but i find it better not olny to read about it but to see if anyone has any iinput on the subject if you have a problem with that dont read my posts

Interesting.. It's just that you are asking very basic questions that are well covered in the service manual.

Flywheel side bearing on the 046 - Once you have the case split, you will need to press the bearng out. It's not possible to do with without putting a lot of pressure on the inner race, which is bad for the bearing. Heating the case might help but often the bearing is well stuck, and the bearing takes the heat almost as fast as the case. You'll need to check it afterwards by appliing a slight preload to the bearing (a vice with soft jaws works) and see how it feels on rotation. If you drive it out with a hammer, it will be ruined, but you might not know for a while.. If it was me, I'd use a new bearing... It is the cheaper of the two.

i am not at all trying to say i do not welcome his opinion he has been a help and the case on the 460 is trashed so im going to open that up to get the bearing instead of press it out im pretty low on cash right now and i need this saw going i was going to invest in a new saw but its not gonna happen i got the bills today and i still gotta pay my help and about the manual thing ive done a lot of mechanic work on mostly 4 strokes and the manuals are so poorly written that i find other thing different so i personally like to ask around my question about the pins was i saw them in the manual but i could not see if they were internal or external thanks for the help so far everyone
