The sprocket exploded on my 395. It has the same setup as my old 266xp I think. Anyways the old rope in the sparkplug hole isn't working, it squishes the rope and turns over, I don't have air tools, what to do? Thanks for helping, Jim.

get a bigger rope, a piece of nylon rope just big enough to fit in the spark plug hole and a breaker bar,,,if i remember properly i think the clutch is left hand thread???? i know my stihl is

Its left hand. Thanks for the advice, I remember my 266 just needed a bootlace.

I have rope it it, the piston is stopped, I have been using a breaker bar with a 6 point 3/4" socket as well as a 3/4" 6 point wrench, and beating them with a 8lb. sledge, no luck, I don't really want to get carried away but what now?

i would ask if the chain brake is on. but on a 395 its on the clutch cover....hummmmm....i'd try to come up with an impact

Yes, impact, in the morning I will take it to the garage next door, thanks guys.

Make sure they set the wrench on it's lowest setting and only give it tiny blips. Some folks say to make sure there is enough slack in the starter rope to prevent harm.

Good luck.

When I told my dealer that is how I took the apart my 395 they said their distributer disapproved of the method strongly.

i sure as heck wouldn't have them but it back on with an impact either. i usually only use a 3/8" wratchet and tighten it wrist tight..ive seen flywheel keys sheared off from tightening with an impact(flywheel slipped, threw of timing=bad deal)

If you use the impact and piston stop, make sure the piston is tdc or you will have a good chance to blow a piston ,,,,

Knot the rope up. I use a piece about 12" long w/ 10 or so knots in it. Only saw it hasn't worked on is my 090. In that case, I put the knots in knots.

I used to use an impact, but after seeing the damage it may have done to my 090 piston, I think I'll be giving up that practice. If you must use an impact never physically block the piston or crank. Let the compression do the holding.

Your saw sounds like a tough one. I took an 044 apart that I had to put a cheater pipe on the ratchet (24" length total, give or take) and stand on the saw to loosen it.

Man I like inbrd clutches. Sounds like a lot of work for sprocket change.

I agree, but not all saws with outboards are that difficult.

On the small Huskys it is quite simple, a suitable "iron" in a recess, and a whack or two with a club or hammer - no piston stop needed.

Thank you all for the advice, I sprayed some Moovit onto the threads, I decided not to take the saw to the garage, I took it to the Husky mechanic. He tried a small airgun with the plug still in the saw, then a bigger one, then finally a piston stop tool and a breaker bar with a pipe. Tighter than a nuns...anyways now done. Thanks again, Jim
