John, if the file were still tipped down to the same angle, that would be true. If the file is tipped down less and angled more to the rear the side plate angle is sharp( around 30 Deg.) and the inside corner shows up on the top plate a bit. It does leave a very thin top plate angle. I don't know how it would stand up for you.

Whew,30deg is sharp. That is so far off what I normally am at 40/45 that I have a lot of trouble filing it. That has to be more of a "racing" chain. I dont think my grinder could be adjusted to get up in there like that. I am real happy with my work grind but am going to try some more with the file at 30. Have to change my normal filing style to be able to do it.

Rainy day again here in central Ar.

John, there is mention in some of Denis Cahoons posts about altering grinders to achieve results you cannot get with the factory setup. Art Martin also refers to setting back the wheel or changing some grinder relationships for competition chain. I think I can visualize what they are getting at but my experience is 99% filing. As you know, every condion you alter affects at least two others when you are limited by fixed angles of the file. You needn't worry about running out of possibilities to try though!
