I received positive responses to my last post, Thank You very much. I just purchased a used Stihl 028 WB. There is not any literature with the saw. What is the procedure for starting the saw.
Thanks

Stihltech could mest give the precisely correct answere to that, but be carefull or you will damage the working of the "master control" mechanism. As I recall you must depress the throttle trigger prior to placeing the lever on choke.

1) Place your left hand on the top handle and keep it there.
2) With your right hand, grab the rear handle and pull the throttle.
3) Your thumb is already in perfect position, push the switch down to the last position.
4) Pull starter handle with your RIGHT hand, pulling straight up on the starter handle (drop starting drags the rope out at a sharp angle and wears out the starter rope).
5) After the engine sparks, move the switch up one notch (fast idle position).
6) pull the starter handle again, engine should fire up.
7) Blip the throttle and the switch will move off the fast idle position to normal 'on' position.

*Note- If you drop-start saws, you may not like the switch. It is very simple and reliable when the proper starting procedure is used. People who drop start saws also have to replace starter ropes on a regular basis. Not to mention the safety issues.

028

Could not have said it better myself.
I drop start almost every saw I get my hands on, and I have never had a problem, but the Stihl is my living, so I am VERY familiar with it. The master control is a great idea.

ive got other good saws but this 028 is just a sure thing on the 3rd pull . thats if its been setting a wk or so. otherwise ,
more often than not its the first pull.
knock on wood:)
