Not ready to burn yet, summer is still hanging on, nights barely get into the low 60s, probably at least for another 2-3 weeks. I was hoping for a week of dry weather before I started moving my seasoned wood into dry storage, but yet again another week of rain in the forecast. My oak stacks are looking pretty tired and grumpy from all of the moisture, this year has been the wettest I've ever recalled in my lifetime, especially the late spring and summer. All of the rain we've had has me rethinking how I will season my wood in the future...

We have had a lot of rain here too. waiting for a few dry sunny days to start putting some wood in the garage and shed. I filled a couple metal totes and put them under a roof with open sides.

Hoping to hold off another month on firing up the OWB. Have about 10 bags of pellets and will probably run the pellet stove a bit before.

Like I said 92 on Friday and now 44 this morning not sure when it's going to change for good but I better get ready soon. As a hvac guy I dont like the down time, which we haven't had much of, but as a wood burner I'll wait as long as I can before I fire up the wood furnace.

Ditto. Last year I had 1 huge tarped pile and put in the shed in June. This year 4 large piles sitting out in the rain. Some s wetter than when I cut n split.

I hear you, brother. From now on I'll probably take the extra effort in removing the bark from my oak before or during splitting. Seems that is the main culprit for some of it going punky and sprouting fungus since it can't get dry enough with all of the rain. I think we only had about two 2 week stints the whole summer with little to no rain. May end up trashing 10-15% of my red oak splits and will probably re-stack them in a way that I can easily tarp them over the winter so they can dry better next year.

Luckily I have plenty of Ash and Cherry, enough to last me through the winter. I can't wait to start burning! Rebuilt the firebox in my old Dutchwest stove, installed a new baffle, catalytic comb., and fixed grate. Custom made a soapstone cap for the top of it, and next I'll replace all of the gaskets. Looking forward to the autumn chill, as always!

We have had frost almost every single night since the beginning of September, which is a bit unusual.
Some nights down to -10 c.
