Stihl 009

Can someone give me a quick history lesson on the 009 such as about how long they been around? Did Stihl continue selling the 009 when they introduced the 009L? Are the models with horizontal choke switches newer models than models with vertical choke switches. The reason I ask is because I recently acquired an 009 and an 009L and it just seems that the 009 is a newer saw than the 009L. Thanks

Thanks for the link but I suppose Stihl doesn't feel the need to publish the type of info i'm curious about in their owners manuals. Just wondering

The 37cc 009 was made from 1980 to 1989

The 41cc 009LE from 1982 to 1997

Then there was an 009 "Miniboss" made from 1993 to about 2004/5...

The horizontal slide choke is the later type, but they get swtiched around all the time.

Thanks a bunch, that explains a lot. The 009 I have probably is a newer example than my 009L. Don't know why it matters to me, other than my lack of chainsaw knowledge. Thanks again
