I HAVE A CUSTOMER WITH A STIHL 015AV THAT RUNS AND CUTS PERFECTLY, BUT EVERYTIME HE USES IT IT GETS DIRT ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE AIR FILTER. IT HAS THE SCREEN TYPE FILTER AND I CAN NOT FIND ANY HOLES OR FLAWS IN IT. WE ORDERED A NEW FILTER AND IT WAS A FLOCKED TYPE OR CLOTH STYLE BUT HAD NO SUPPORT TO IT SO WE ADDED IT TO THE SCREENED FILTER AND IT IS STILL GETTING DIRT BEHIND IT. ANY SUGGESTIONS, TO GOOD OF A SMALL SAW TO RUIN.

There is a rubber seal that sits in between the carb and the engine housing.

That might be how the filter works.

Check the thread titled 011 AVT gas leak. You'll find a post by
Sedanman where he explains how some of the saws draw the air in from what you would think of as the bottom of the filter. I don't have any experience with the 015, but maybe the carb & filter set up is the same? On my 011s the filter cover sits very snugly on the top of the air filter. Sedan's explanation will make a lot more sense than my paraphrasing.

And the all caps is hard on the old eyes.

Chris, Good thought but the 015 draws through the front of the filter. There is the rubber seal that Grande Dog is talking bout between the carb and the rewind assy. This seal should be easy to see with the filter cover off. It clings to the carb mount screws then gets held in place by the rewind assy 'squashing' it to the carb. Last time I checked it was still available but 015 parts are drying up. The only other thing I can think of is the filter is actually for an 020.

Good thought?!

Am I actually starting to sound like I might know what I'm talking about:dizzy: ?

Seriously, thanks for the clarification.
