Stihl 017 choke

I'm rebuilding a Stihl 017 for a friend and came across a small problem. The little plastic loop that holds the choke actuator rod is loose which makes the rod come out of the loop when the choke is released. I hate to replace the whole engine cradle just because of a little piece of plastic but haven't figured out the best way to fix the problem. Anybody run into this before?

I have heated the plastic and squished it together a hair to tighten up the grip a bit.

I ended up using a mini blow torch, like a cigarette lighter, heated it slightly with the fire not pointed directly at the plastic then I mashed the loop together a bit, seems to be working for now. Man, what a poor design!

I don't know what it looks like , but can you make paperclip loop encased in JB Weld?

It's not a complete loop, just a little over half so you can take the control out when making repairs, etc.

Clean well, Jb weld in a section of plastic soda straw?
This will close the gap maybe .020 in.
I just picked up one of them. Nice small saw.
