Hi All

New to this website but came here looking for some help with old 020 Chainsaw.
Believe the saw to be an 020 av super as it has a 40mm piston in it (recently replaced), however the cylinder is badly scored and looking to get a replacement.
I tried to purchase one off a well known website but unfortunately got a 38mm one by mistake.
Any help much appreciated

I have a 38mm replacement used cylinder if i was to buy a correct 38mm piston for it would that work ok in my Super as 40mm AV cylinders seem to be like gold dust or would there be a problem with the other ancillaries i.e carb etc.

If the strokes are the same, I don’t believe you’ll have any problems, but I’ve never personally done it.

I have an 020av super that I did a full rebuild on and converted to tophandle. Fun, snotty little saw.

Should work . I changed many 020 from 38 mm over to 40mm if parts allowed me to do so. So I see no reason why you couldn't go the other way providing you can find a good 38mm piston with good rings. Good used 38mm parts are going to be hard to find.

Personally I would hold out in the hopes of finding a 40 mm cylinder. 38 mm 020 was an ok saw but the 40mm super was a much better saw.

I have 3 non-super parts saws in the garage. Don’t remember offhand how many cylinders I still have, but should be able to go check in the next couple hours.

Definitely don’t have any super cylinders, though. :-/

Thanks everyone. Here in the UK the 38mm seems to be in abundance but the 40mm are rare however I have a connection to a business that do the pistons over here.Very thankful for all your help and advice

I'm in the middle of rebuilding my 020av. If I understand correctly, I can use a super piston and cylinder to replace the original, gaining a little displacement in the process? Is the crankshaft the same between the two? Thank you for any info/help you can provide!
