Because it has gotten real hot at some stage?
Not the clearest of photos to spot the damage- but the 020T/200T muffler sits in pretty close proximity to the plastic- if the heat shield is not there, or wrinkled up a bit, the saw us used for extended periods as a ground saw (remembering the intended use is shorts bursts of run time up in a tree) and working hard with a dull chain- it gets hot!

Thanks for the reply definitely no type of heat shield there just trying to work out if i should spend money on new casing etc but now ive noticed slight scortch marks on piston aswell

Clutch cover scorched/melted/busted up too?
Pretty common on these- to be honest, I cant even remember if the 020T has a foil heat shield- the 200T does.
The 020T is the pre runner to the 200T- nicer carb, screw tank caps not flippy- getting older now, but still a very capable tree service saw.
Depends what it is worth to you running as to how much money you are willing to throw at it- generally they can still be made to run real nice with some scorching and melted bits.

EDIT: just looked at service manual and yes, like the 200T the 020T should have reflector foil 1129 351 3000 and heat insulating plate 1129 351 4000

Yep clutch cover burnt up and melted thanks for your help just needed reassurance its a normal thing so ill feel better spending the money if i get it running good

Probably been left ticking over on its side, the two panels under the clutch are replaceable. On this type of saw with this exhaust, instead of drilling the muffler, just remove the spark arrester screen for the same result (not recommended for fire risk areas! )
