anyone know what the cylinder compression should be on a stihl 024av.?? i took my "no start condition" saw to my local repair shop and they came back with what they say is a low(85 lbs) compression reading and suggested either junking it or buying one of their new saws. so...i took it home and screwed in my auto compression guage and did a test myself.(with the choke wide open)....after 4-5 pulls, the reading peaked at 120lbs and stayed there for at least 10-15 minutes with no drop. so......is compression an issue????? prior to taking it to the shop, i had already checked for fresh fuel, a good impulse line, good plug and spark....etc. only way that it would start(and not stay running) was with a shot of starting spray. thanks.

Assuming you a have the right type of gauge, 120 is very poor, the saw would be difficult to start and lack power. If new, expect about 165-170 , and over 150 for "good".

The reason the pressure stayed for 15 minutes has nothing to do with the saw - that's just the gauge valve.

If the rest is o.k, yes. Do they even have one for the 024? You can't use an 026 jug unless you have an 024super crankcase.
