Hi. There is a lot of the top fin missing on cylinder of a stihl 024 i got. Will this make much difference to cooling. Thanks

Can you post a picture? I've seen a lot of saws with a small chunk broken off a couple fins and still run fine. Just make sure your tune is good (not running too lean) and keep your chain sharp.
 
Stihl 024 have very little top fin to start with, has someone ground more off? When someone swaps an 026 cylinder onto the 024S the top fins often get ground down to off and the saw runs fine, don`t remember any overheating.

My crew boss has a 346 that got smashed not too long after purchase. The cylinder fins are mostly broken, and the cylinder is nicely crushed in in places, yet didn't unseat.

The thing still runs fine, which amazes me. It runs hotter, so it's the backup's backup's backup. It sounds about like a 372.

I do wonder what the compression is on it.
