I installed the adjustable oil pump conversion the day before yesterday and it went in just fine. I bought the complete kit on eBay for ~$69 delivered. I also replaced the oil pickup line and filter at the same time, while I had the pump out. Also, while I had the saw apart I went ahead and changed out the fuel hose and fuel filter. After all this maintenance I started up the saw with the bar and chain removed and once the oil pump and lines were primed it was pumping oil nicely. I then put my bar and chain on the saw and then tested the oiler on the saw by revving the saw over a snow pile. It was not the best surface to test it on, but I could see some oil flying onto the snow and that was with a cold bar and chain using winter bar/chain oil.
If you decide to convert to an adjustable oil pump, you need to purchase the whole kit not just the oil pump and don't forget to also order the oil pickup hose and filter to make sure you covered all the bases. BTW, I did not see anything obvious wrong with my non-adjustable oiling system, except for the oil hose leading to the bar oiling port was very hard and brittle and it actually broke off the pump barb as I was trying to remove it. The worm gear and pump looked fine, so I suspect the oil hose had developed a crack and was leaking.
