Jeff probably purchased this for what it's worth, it's a little harder when trying to resell and make a buck. Nothing wrong with that. Nice saw , but i can buy these all day long in very nice condition off ebay for around $200 to $250, probably about what Jeff paid for this one. Now before you all start bashing ebay, i've bought over a 1000 items off ebay in the last 20 years. Everything from my 2 current Dodge 4x4 dually 1Ton diesel's , mu wife's suburban, boats, Harley's to a dozen Chevelle's 68 thru 72's.(my younger son and i buy and flip them) to a ton of antiques for my wife to put in our home, even clothes. Currently i buy a lot of AR parts off ebay. I haven't bought a vehicle from a local dealer since 1996. All have been bought off ebay and a couple recently off craiglist. Only been burned 1 time, and even that in the long run worked out in my favor. If you pay with paypal, you protected if the item is not what it's described, or shows up in bad shape from shipping, because even if it's insured, the post office will usually do nothing. Of course it's government owned, what do you expect? I had a holley carb i bought the fella did a really poor job of packing, arrived with the base plate and choke broke, the box looked like they played drop kick football with it. And it was the result of terrible packing. My wife works for UPS, so i try to advise folks on how to pack before shipping. Can't believe the people that pack the sides and top and forget about the bottom. Like what's the first thing to make contact if you drop something? Duh, The bottom. Anyway i got my money back. Also nice, is the ability to use paypal's money for free anywhere from 6 months to 18 months. I use it all the time. I've bought 2 new stihls in the last couple of months, MS180 that a guy ported, and just a couple of weeks ago, a new MS261 that i finally put fuel in and used last weekend. I've got an 029 i bought new about 20 years ago. Let's just say i am thrilled. I know some of you on here won't like this post, but it is what it is. Good luck Jeff, very nice saw. :)

eBay can work both way though. After looking at things on it for years, I made my first purchase on it last year in an auction. Bought a MS660R from a seller in CA (who had a 100% "Positive Feed" back record- although fairly short time wise) and the saw was "Buyer Protected" by eBay so I felt safe with the purchase. I ended up paying more than I wanted to win it and then paid the shipping coast to coast, saw in one box and 28" bar in another- not cheap. I waited more than a week for it to arrive and when it did, I quickly discovered that the "Lightly used for personal use, with dealer freshened up top end" was really a dropped from 40' out of a tree, commercially used saw that was a Frankenstein of new and severely used old parts (new handle/tank, but with cracked up cases- every other part on the saw was like this). They half @$$ rebuilt a basket case (instead of just rebuilding the whole saw like they should have- and disclosed it as such). All of the 6-8 detail pictures were taken just far enough away that you couldn't see the fine detail that would have told the true condition. I Giving the seller/saw the benefit off the doubt- I took it to my local/very reputable Stihl dealer for their mechanical opinion (the cosmetic & structural issues were now obvious as mentioned). They said don't even start it- just ship it back as fast as you can. So, after having to jump through a bunch of hoops by eBay and threatening the seller with "Negative Feedback" (which got ugly), I was finally able to get the seller to pay for the return shipping and refund my money including the $70 in shipping that I had paid to get it in the first place. It was a major pain in the @ss process that took me 3 weeks to get my money back, and in the end I was still at square one with out a saw (of which several other good deals had come and gone in the meantime while my $ was tied up). So, it can work both ways- there are a Lot of scammers on EBay (in my opinion less so on CL- because you are often buying locally with face to face transactions) and I don't feel its like that with Saw Forum members. Needless to say, I have not purchased anything on eBay since and may not ever again. Just a for what it's worth...

Yes I bet just like anything else it can go either way. This selling stuff is scary you or at least I am trying hard to make sure people know what they are getting.
I just sent two saws on my dime to a member here he will pay shipping and for the saws eventually I am absolutely sure. He would have paid me already but I told him no,.. to wait until he got the saws first to be sure they were what he thought they were before paying me. Now he may have gone right out and put a check in the mail that day ,...but I did make the offer for him to wait as well. These saws were old and I did not want him to be disappointed .Jeff

Ok Scott I thank you for noticing the saw and thanks for the sales help.....bty what is your commission ? How much will iou? take ,Jeff

Jeff,
Thanks for the PM- I am replying you you now.
All others, I am waiting on a call back from my dad and so I have not committed to the saw as of yet- please don't let me prevent anyone else from making a deal at the moment. Thanks, Scott

Thanks , Well i hesitate to continue about the saw's history but you enjoyed The back ground on it and maybe someone else did as well. So here is some more.
The man I bought this saw is named Mike he bought it someplace in Conn. He was moving here to Maine and wanted the whole pioneer experience. So one of his plans was to heat with wood thus the new saw. He came up here and had a home already purchased so he found someone selling wood so he bought a load. I dont know but i assume he bought a wheeler load 10 +/_ cords . He had good luck the first year, more work than he expected but he did the same for the next year. I dont know if that was his last year or if he did this for 3 years ? Anyway after a few years he decided that oil delivery trucks drove by his home on a regular basis and he was sick of all the work and " wood mess" and switched to oil.
He took the saw to a local dealer and asked how best to store the saw as most likely he wouldnt be using it for a while. The shop emptied the tank ran the saw till empty and passed it back to him. He said he was amazed how long the saw would run with no fuel in the tank! ( i found the same thing when storing some of my Partners) That is the story he told me, I bought the saw and took it home. I was out of mix or almost so i had to mix up some new so i filled the tank. I let the saw sit for about 20 min while i did other things. Then I and Choked it and in 6 or 7 pulls and she sat right there ideling.
I went back the next day and bought two Toro Power Curve snow throwers from him.. He told me similar stories about the blowers. One 5 hp and 1- 3hp both started right up with fresh mix ( they are both 2 strokes) I have already sold the 5 hp one. He had bought a 50+ hp Kubota with full cab to do his driveway. you should see that rig !
Before i left with the blowers i told him , hey if you ever have anything else small to sell,... call me. He said well the only thing he really could part with was an Anshoultz ( sp ) target rifle. As he started to explain he used to belong to some target shooting team .
My thoughts were in the thousands of bucks probably,.. so i did not even ask the price. I told him what i wanted was an Old pump .22 and a Savage Combo rifle Shotgun like 223 /243/20 gauge. He said "well i sold most all my rifles to Cabelas"
If anyone here is familar with "Cabels Gun Library" that was what he was talking about. At the gun libarary they only buy the best in firearms so even if he had some i knew i couldn't afford any of them ! I thanked him and left.

I purchased a used Anshoultz well used in 2002 paid 1350$ killed me to pay that but at the time they where very hard to find , 10k rounds later and she is still shooting good . It all goes back to supply and demand . Also a super clean 026 is very very wanted by those that love the 260 but hate the flippy caps . Demand what you want for the saw or keep it for your own saw . I price things on what I want to get out of them. I don't bend much on price.

Thank you both I just got thinking ," Alright I am back in my wood lot and this thing is gnawing through the wood slowly" ( I am in impatient person ) so in this train of thought wouldn't I have been happier if I had a new full chisel chain on it?.... So if I would want it I am sure others would as well. Besides I may keep it anyway, but I am not giving it away, that's all.

ebay did'nt even exist 20 years ago...jus sayin ....

nice saw jeff, good luck with your sale...

Thank you, I was just coming here to say that on my way home today I stopped at my local Stihl dealer. I stopped there because this saw has the homeowner style chain on it now. I got to thinking if I was going out to cut I would not personally want to use that chain and if I keep the saw I would want a new chain. So,.... I bought a new bar and r.s.c. chain the guy said on the roll it is actually called Rapid super chisel . Who ever buys the saw will get this brand new bar and chain plus the original b&c . The original bar has about maybe 70% +/_ life left as does the chain. JeffView attachment 338873 View attachment 338875 View attachment 338876

Jeff,
Thanks for being patient, working with me and providing my dad with a awesome saw at a great price- I can't wait to give it to him!
Sometimes you have to "put your money where your mouth is & put up or shut up"... Thanks again, Scott ;)

your right, don't know what i was thinking. 16 years i believe. The older you get, the more time seems to fly by. The one thing i know for sure, i have over 650 feedbacks now, and that was after i had over 450 and quit for a couple of years. Then someone stole my handle and when i started again had to use a new one. There are bad deals on ebay, one of my brothers got screwed around, now they both email me if they are looking at something to have me check it out and make sure it's legit, they've also had several friends contact me to check out items. I've seen and heard it all. Craiglist can be just about as bad.

Congrats on the sale Jeff, :)

Thanks , I think this over the computer selling could be a license to steal ya know? I don't do a bunch of techy stuff my self. A very good friend of mine has an e-bay thing.
He inherited 3,500 western style books mostly series I guess and he started an account to sell them a few at a time. He has been buying my e-bay needs for me. I just bought some gas can vents from Hawaii $5.00 for ten vents free shipping and they were here in 4 days !!! How the heck can you beat that.

Hey Jeff congrats on the sale you sold a great saw at a good price. Job well done.

Mike
Thanks Mike and to a pretty good fella too I think. I just hope he thinks it is as nice as I do. Before I would make the deal I told him to go back to the beginning and look closely at the pictures and to ask anything he could think of . I guess he liked it cause he still wanted to buy it so I sold it.

Thanks for the kind words Jeff, it has been a pleasure to deal with you as well. I look forward to passing along a great saw to someone who will appreciate it, take care of it and enjoy it as much as the prior owner did. Thanks again for everything, Scott ;)
