Stihl 026

Can anyone tell me what an 026 with a 16" bar is worth in fair + condition.

I saw one @ a pawn shop. Had a good bar & chain (both Stihl) + a case.

The sprocket was shot, and it needed cleaning. It felt like the compression was good.

Of course i would not even consider buying it w/o pulling the muffler to inspect the piston/cyl/rings.

Other than that, it looked OK, nothing broken or missing that i could see.

They were asking $169 for it - know I could knock at least $20 off that.

S-rew the pond shops , but that is an interesting price. On the other hand you have no idea what you are getting.

By buying from them you are promoting thieves.

Here in North Dakota I would be selling a 026 for about $250.00 in good shape. That is a great saw.

$150- $170 is too cheap for an 026 in good shape. Part of me agrees with Tony. But if it has good compression and your conscience won't bother you thinking about the poor guy who got ripped off, then buy it. Just don't expect the pawn shop to offer you a sales receipt with the serial number written on it.
