I am in the process of re-assembling a 028 Super that was given to me with a shot crank (drive side) bearing. I sourced a good used crank case with crank and I am now putting it all together. Got a couple of stupid questions:
What order do the pieces to the Oregon #29917 rim sprocket kit go on? There are two washer/plates of different diameter and a small dished washer that I believe goes on last behind e-clip and does the plastic oil drive gear go on with raised side down of flush side down? Do you use grease on the plastic gears, does the oiler drive rub the inner plastic cover? Also, bar stud guide/wear plate won't screw on to the crank case, the screw is in a different location, should I skip the screw or locate a new hole on the plate? And while I am at it, would it help to drill holes in the baffle box front or even remove the front of the box and toss the spark screen for a muffler mod? Any help is much appreciated.

Sawjo you should have received a paper telling you the order with the oregon setup, you wont use all of the peices, I put one on my 028WB and it drove me crazy trying to figure it out, the 028 had a couple setups for the clutch's so they sent the parts out in the kit for whichever setup you have, mine I didnt even have to use one of the large washers. I will try to get a photo for you later and you will see how it sets up.

if its an oregon set up . make sure the sprocket fits good. ive had trouble in the past with poor fitting ,,when trying to use powermatch sprockets on stihl saws.the worst was on 036. man they just were a good enuff fit to not wear everything out prematurely.
so after that i just played it safe and bought pts that stihl put out ,if working on stihl saws. others may or may not have had this experience ,but it was an eye opener for me..

Tony I know what you mean I put one on the 028WB and it seems fine then I put one on the 046 and I am going to replace it, the bearing is loose and allows the drum to wonder around a bit when its at idle you can hear it pinging up against the clutch not enough to make it move but not like the stihl that was on it before.
Oops I have to change the last part of this one its a GB that I have on the 046 and I'm not happy with the GB.

I hope this helps you out, you will put the plastic gear on the drum then put the drum through the cover then put on the dust cover (metal ring, edge turned in) then the clip to hold it all in place.
