The problem is when I cut with the saw the chain gets so tight or so much tention on it that the clutch can not move the chain on the bar. The bar is a 16' Stihl and the chAIN IS 3/8 WITH 60dl

tHE BAR AND CHAIN WAS ON A 038 av. Both saws have 3/8 sprockets. I have not checked can one sprocket be larger?? Some one tell me what wrong I sure do not know

Thank's:confused:

Is it oiling properly?

Maybe start out with just a bit of slack in the chain. Are you holding the nose of the bar up when you tighten the nuts?

oiler

as eric said, check the oiler. run with the bar off to see if the oiler is pumping enough oil.

I'm running into the same problem with my 041. Theres no happy medium, right after it starts and spins, its too tight.

Take a real close look at your sprocket.Look for grooves cut in the teeth. This will cause what your describing.
Also when you adjust your chain,do not loosen the bar nuts too much.It will allow the bar to move to far from postion.
I always tighten the bar then back off the nuts 1 turn to make my chain adjustments then retighten.

All this I have done the slack and oiling of chain plus sprocket. Have not replace sprocket but I will and bearing.

Thank's

To Tight?

I would like to hear more on this too as I have run into one (stihl) doing the same thing.Oil's good, bar new, chain new.Went with a different bar and cleared it up.16" oilamatic bar was the one that was replaced.Manufacture problem? Put bar on other saw with same results.Stihl has not responded to my inquires on this as I am not an authorized,by them, repair shop.Any one else run into problem's with stihl bar's?

I think we are all at a loss to understand the actual problem. The solution is almost aways fixing the oiler, sprocket, sprocket bearing, tensioner...

I've never seen a bad Stihl bar..

Carl - are you sure you have the right pitch chain/bar combo??
