My dad was given two older STIHLs by my neighbor. He used to regularly fix them, because my neighbor isn't really mechanically inclined. Now my neighbor finally decided to buy a newer saw (which my dad has also been fixing ) and give him the two older STIHLs. They haven't been run in quite a while. He tore them both down and ran them through the parts washer. What he wants to know is if they're worth rebuilding to use. Right now he has an 011AV that he uses to cut firewood, but the 031 is a somewhat larger saw and would help in some instances. As far as we can tell, the 022 needs new handle mounts and a carb kit. The 031 needs ALL rubber mounts, a carb kit, and a piece of the housing that's worn through.

I don't know much about older STIHLs, so I wanted to ask the people that use/have used them if they're worth sticking $$$ into. Thanks in advance for any responses!

Sure they are.. for $30 worth of parts you'll have saws that cut great. Old, but...

031 sell out here for $100-200.
020.. depends on the model and condition, but about the same.

Definitely worth fixing! Parts are available from many sources. There are ALOT
of 30yr. old 031's cutting wood today!
